Heat Press Instructions for DTF Transfers
Heat Press Instructions for DTF Transfers | Axo Brands
Proper application of DTF transfers is key to ensuring that your designs come out looking crisp and vibrant. Follow these step-by-step instructions for the best results.
1. Prepare the Surface
-
Clean the garment or material to ensure it is free from dust, lint, or any oils that could interfere with the transfer.
2. Align the DTF Transfer
-
Place your DTF transfer on the garment with the adhesive side down (the side that you can touch and feel aka non smooth side).
-
Make sure the design is aligned properly before pressing to avoid misplacement.
3. Set Heat Press Settings
-
Temperature: 300°F (148.9°C)
-
Pressure: Medium to High pressure
-
Time: 10 seconds
These settings work well for most fabrics and ensure the adhesive bonds securely to the material.
4. Apply Heat Press
-
Close the heat press and apply the settings for 10 seconds.
-
Ensure that the pressure is consistent across the entire design. If you’re using a clamshell heat press, check that the pressure is even before beginning.
5. Peel the Transfer
Once the heat press cycle is complete, remove the transfer sheet on an angle:
-
Instant Peel: If you’re working with our QUICKFILM DTF transfers, you can peel the film off Instantly. Do so fast and on an angle.
-
Hot Peel: If not comfortable with Instant peeling, just wait 8-10 seconds.
- Cold Peel: For some transfers, it’s better to allow the garment to cool slightly before peeling the film off, specially if you have smaller details or if you're doing bulk shirts.
Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the best results.
6. Post-Pressing (Required)
-
For additional durability, you may want to re-press the garment for an additional 5-10 seconds after peeling to lock the design in place.
-
Cover the transfer with parchment paper or a Teflon sheet to protect it during the second press. We use our ProTex Textured Heat Press Sheet.
7. Care Instructions
To ensure the longevity of your DTF transfer:
-
Wash the garment inside out in cold water.
-
Avoid bleach and fabric softeners.
-
Dry on low heat or air dry for best results.
Tips for Best Results
-
Use a Teflon sheet to protect both the transfer and the heat press platen.
-
If pressing onto dark-colored fabrics, ensure the transfer is completely adhered before peeling off the film.
-
Test a small area or scrap fabric before pressing a full design to ensure compatibility.
